The Blue Water Swim Club (BWSC) has been St. Clair County's premier USA Swim sanctioned club since 1973. Getting its start in the backyard of a house in Port Huron, then moving to St. Clair High School in the early 1980s. Our club and staff of USA Swim certified coaches has been used as a feeder system for all of the surrounding high school swim programs and the record boards of these schools tells the story of our long-term dedication to the sport.
We welcome you to browse through our website, check out our calendar and stop by the pool to meet the coaches and swimmers.
Your swimmer will discover some of the many rewards of participating in competitive swimming, all born out of desire and commitment. Motivation and a positive attitude are the best tools a swimmer has and make the difference when it comes to achievement. BWSC swimmers learn and retain:
- Self-Discipline
- Self-Respect
- Self-Achievement
Swimmers can compete against youths their own age and ability levels. They never ride the bench in practice or at swim meets. Whether swimming long distance, sprints, or both, swimmers become stronger in mind and body. It is well documented that swimming is a sport that contributes to the overall health and fitness of youngsters. The structure strengthens children's abilities outside the pool, as they become well-organized in daily activities, gain confidence, and spend energy in positive ways. This is all in addition to the low-impact health benefits of building lean muscle, endurance, and cardio. Many publications state that among all athletes, swimmers are among the highest grades in school. BWSC aspires to provide a challenging and stimulating atmosphere where any swimmer, regardless of ability, can benefit from the social rewards of participating on a team, as well as experiencing the competitive rewards of attaining personal and team goals. Our coaching staff pushes the students to find these successes through consistency, leadership building, and team identity.
Frequently Asked Questions
First you will want to click "Contact Us" to get information regarding the session. A coach or Board member will contact you to help with any information you may have. They will also help with the registration process. You may be concerned that your swimmer may not like swimming therefore we offer a 2 week trial that if at any time during the first 2 weeks of swim you of your swimmer does not want to continue, BWSC will refund your full registration and 1st month's dues. All you have to do is contact a board member through our site to cancel. Potential members must be able to swim two lengths of the pool without stopping, as this is a competitive swim club and NOT swim lessons.
You must schedule a day to meet with the coaching staff to have your swimmer evaluated. Then they will be placed in a level at that time.
Any child can participate in a swim meet. You will be notified via e-mail when meet registrations are available. Any of the Board Members can assist you - it would be our pleasure - it's always more fun with more kids! It is a great time to experience the excitement of a meet with other kids your child’s age and ability.
The board members with their phone numbers and e-mail addresses are listed under the Resources tab - do not hesitate to contact any one of us, we are happy to answer any additional questions/concerns you may have. We want you to have a pleasant experience with our club!
We'd like them to have one, but it is not necessary. We've tried to make the process of ordering a suit easier and with the least amount of cost for the parents. We have at the beginning of the season a representative from a local swim shop come with suits to size your child. Typically kids practice in "practice suits" and keep their team suit for competitions - that way one team suit should last them the entire season.
The head coach and his staff do on-going evaluations of the swimmers - you will receive updates as to how they are doing, but feel free to ask, anytime. If you have concerns about how your child is doing, please do not hesitate to ask.
Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled practice time to stretch. They should not be dropped off any earlier than 15 minutes before their scheduled time and should be picked up no later than 15 minutes after practice ends. There should be a coach on deck 15 minutes before practice begins to lead stretches. No swimmer should enter the pool area without a coach being on deck.
If time permits you will be notified of swim cancellation by email and SMS alerts if signed up for them. Remember: if East China School District does not have school, then we do not have practice.
Our team has been competing for 45+ years and the levels have been broken down by ability.. We as coaches try to make the swimmers fit more by technique and speed, rather then by their age. Each level has a set amount of skills that the swimmer must be able to perform effectively in order to move up to the next level. As the swimmer progresses, they can move to the next level. Please see the “Levels” page under "Swim Team" for more details.
We are requesting as coaches that each swimmer bring their own fins, kickboard, paddles, and pull buoy in a mesh bag but the only items that are required are goggles and a competitive style swim suit (no board shorts or bikini's), swim caps are not required but they are highly encouraged mostly for girls. If at any time a swimmer out grows their equipment they are allowed to switch it out with the clubs inventory/equipment, with the size they currently need, free of charge. They may wear any suit for practice but we'd like everyone to have a team suit for competition, again not required to compete. The swimmers are allowed to wear sweats and flip flops on deck but no street shoes.
